. htaccess is a configuration file for use on web servers running the Apache Web Server software


to edit it

  • go to your Hosting account setting
  • find SSH & SFTP
  • get your hostname and username and password
  • go and Download filezilla
  • install it and use your information and connect to your site
  • search through filenames and find .htaccess
  • right click to it and download
  • it will downloaded to the local site or default path
  • if you using Ubuntu file is hidden by default
  • through the upside bar you find the view menu click and mark show hidden files or press ctrl +H
  • open the .htaccess using text editor and remove or add what you want
  • for example “you might using wordpress and having problem with some plugin like in

    All In One WP Security you mess with option and get login to your admin account then you try to remove from the .htaccess , remove from the start of # BEGIN ALL In One WP Security to END ALL In One WP Security then save it

  • after you end editing your file go to your filezilla and connect

  • through remote site search in filenames and delete .htaccess
  • then select from the right your local site edited file then right click and upload it htaccess
